We’ve all been there. It’s a Tuesday evening after a long day of work. You’re unwinding with yet another rewatch of The Sopranos, a series that now equally appeals to middle-aged men and TikTok-ing zoomers. Yet as you cozy up on your couch as “Telltale Moozadell” plays across your TV screen, a blanket strewn across your lap and a bowl of fresh popcorn, you notice something. Sitting on the bleachers, cig in hand, is that … a teenage Lady Gaga?
You snatch your phone from the arm of your couch and start frantically googling to find that yes, long before she nabbed audiences with her roles in House of Gucci, A Star Is Born and that one Lonely Island music video about threesomes, she was Stefani Germanotta, starring as “Girl at Swimming Pool #2” in the HBO drama’s third season.
Yet Gaga is far from alone. Earlier this week, Twitter user @notgwendalupetook to the platform to see just how many stars have surprised us with their on-screen versatility and career glow-ups.
“Do y'all have any actors who played different roles that you actually never knew it was them until years later? cause I'll go first,” they wrote alongside two juxtaposing stills respectively depicting Sasha Pieterse in 2005’s The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3-D and again as Alison DiLaurentis, the iconic character she portrayed in both Pretty Little Liars and Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists.
From Lady Gaga to Pieterse, Alex Wolff and Asa Butterfield, and more, here are some of the stars behind Twitter’s favorite “Oh they were in THAT?” moments.
