Rick Rubin - producer know nothing about music

Rick Rubin is a record producer involved in the success of countless artists over the last thirty years, ranging from hip-hop to heavy metal. The Beastie Boys, Run-DMC, LL Cool J, Metallica, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Johnny Cash are just a few of his success stories. He's been a part of 9 grammy winning efforts and nominated for 13 more. MTV called him the most important producer of the last 20 years, and he was a Time "100 Most Influential People in the World." Though in a recent interview with 60 Minutes, he told Anderson Cooper, "I have no technical ability and I know nothing about music."

In this interview with 60 Minutes, Rubin talks about how he contributes to the artists he works with despite not having the same musical background. "The confidence that I have in my taste," he says. "I know what I like and what I don't like."


No matter what artist he’s working with, Rick Rubin insists making music is a deeply emotional pursuit. “We’re trying to tap into a feeling,” Rubin said. “We’re trying to tap into something that makes you wanna lean forward and pay more attention.”
