On today’s installment of cis men continuing to be the most oblivious creatures on Earth, it seems the bar is on the floor when it comes to romance. Last week, Redditor u//LizzieMinx took to r/askwomen with a bold inquiry for the women on the app — “where was the cringiest place a date has taken you?”

“Not really a date. But a guy I was talking to asked me to go to his grandpa's funeral like two weeks after we first hung out,” explained one user, who had since deleted their account. “I did it, and God rest your soul Grandpa Jack but if I'm ever introduced somewhere as a ‘special friend’ ever again I'm gonna unalive myself.”

“One time a guy wanted to show me his “cool hidden spot in the city” where he went to ‘think and be alone’ where he ‘wrote all his best songs,’” recalled u/spacebun3000. Yet instead of a cute little cafe, a library or well, somewhere somewhat normal, it seems their date’s romantic hideaway was not romantic after all.

“it was just a grimy underpass downtown where homeless people did meth and made bonfires ,” they added.

Yet even worse than awkward places is seemingly the lack thereof, a sentiment that u/livelaughween, whose date decided to aimlessly drive around instead of ask for directions, knew all too well.

“I once went out with someone who was a year or two younger than me and must have been intimidated due to our age difference? He picked me up, and we proceeded to cruise North… hmm, we’d made plans to head just South and grab lunch somewhere in my hometown,” they remembered. “After 30-45 minutes of him ‘missing’ every exit for miles, and saying almost nothing as I awkwardly carried the conversation by sharing random stories, I politely asked, ‘hey, ah, where are we headed?’”

At this point, her sutor finally ‘fessed up.

“Finally, he admitted, ‘I don’t actually know where the place you wanted to eat is,’” he said.

“‘Why didn’t you ask me how to get there?’” they replied, to which she was hit with the classic “I don’t know.”

“I still don’t really understand what happened? But it was EASILY the most awkward “date” I’ve ever been on,” they concluded.

Men, please, step your goddamn game up.
