Undiscovered Gold In The DVD Shelf

I had the day off today, and decided to make the most of it. There's a ton of outdoor things that need to be brought to the shed, the car needs the snow tires put on, the kitchen floor could stand a mopping, and a pile of ignored laundry has been piling in the basement.

None of that shit happened, of course. It's my day off, right?

Instead, I went through the DVD shelves to stare at the wasted money and try and find something that would hold my attention until my 4:00 scheduled nap. What I came up with was pure, cinematic gold.....kind of.

Sometime in the last eight years, I'd purchased the movie "Go", but had never gotten around to watching it. (I'm thinking it was an impulse purchase from a discount bin or something.) Anyway, I figured I'd give it a chance and see what it was like. Worst case, if it sucked I could turn it off and pop in Stripes. (Classic.)

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. Although the plot moved forward (and backward) like a poorly ripped off Tarintino film, it kept me entertained right 'til the end. The movie itself was produced in 1999, which explains the casting choices. (Some "noteable" stars included Sarah Polley, Katie Holmes, Taye Diggs, Breckin Mayer, Desmond Askew, William Fichtner, and, one of my comedy favorites, Jay Mohr.) It took me right back to my youth when I was 17 years old in 1999, my biggest concern in the world being Friday nights and where the biggest party was going to be. I even remembered, word-for-word, some of the songs used in the soundtrack. (Shame ensued, on most occassions.) The plot itself is pretty cut-and-dry, involving three intermixing stories all revolving around a drug deal. The style, dialogue, and subtle humour is what made the film really stand out to me.

I suggest anyone who hasn't seen this movie to do so, especially if you were anywhere in your late teens or early twenties in the latter half of the 90s. I quite enjoyed it. If anyone has any film suggestions for tomorrow...I'm not working then, either...please post something in the comments. I'd like to have another excuse as to why I've been ignoring my household responsibilites.  (I was thinking Paulie Shore marathon, but I'm not entirely sure my common sense will allow it.)

Thanks for reading,
