I'm a firm believer in the power of great teachers. Back in my school days, my 'best' subject would routinely change year-to-year depending on which teachers I had teaching that class. Great teachers inspire curiosity and then nurture that desire to learn with a passion. On the flipside, bad teachers can absolutely destroy your interest in a subject for years and years to come.
This English teacher was of the decidedly bad variety - ill-tempered, too lazy to bother teaching anything, and quick to blame others for her own mistakes. She got away with it because of tenure, but karma finally caught up to her in the form of a new student who was smart enough to keep all the receipts
