One of the strangest conspiracies still making the rounds on TikTok is the claim that Helen Keller - who was famously deaf and blind - was actually a fake. The conspiracy states that she was a fraud and never could have accomplished everything that history claims she did.

Contrary to popular belief, she was not born deaf and/or blind. In 1882 when Helen was 19 months old, she developed an illness which was likely caused by bacterial meningitis. This led to her losing her sense of sight and hearing.

The main argument here is how could someone who was both deaf and blind from such a young age go on to operate an airplane? How could someone with those specific disabilities author not one, not two, but twelve different books?

It's not only the 'how', but also the 'why.' Why was she the only person in history to function at this high a level in society with her handicaps. Sure there have been other blind and deaf people, but how many have come remotely close to accomplishing what Helen did. Why haven't we seen anyone like her since?

Did Helen Keller truly exist? Did her teacher Anne Sullivan use her as a puppet, exaggerating her accomplishments for her own personal gain?  I guess we'll have to leave those questions to the TikTok sleuths.
